MIU Hybrid Dual Portable Computer

Friday, January 23rd, 2009

The next Hybrid Dual Portable Computer (HDPC) from MIU will exist in two versions – basic and premium. The first will have the GPS navigation, as well as functions of the dictionary. Both models will include wireless standard functions (probably Wi-Fi and Bluetooth), two operating systems that run on Windows XP and CE, and the mobile phone. It’s going to be a little complicated to hold a conversation with this device, so we strongly recommend to have a Bluetooth headset. The basic model will cost about $500, and premium costs twice. MIU must finish 100 games of samples to satisfy the demands of customers and companies before they can mass produce them.

Thursday, January 22nd, 2009

The MSI U120 is available on Amazon.com at a price of $478, this is only slightly more than the Samsung NC10 ($458). The MSI Wind U120 has some advantages over the NC10:

  • Memory Stick support (in addition to other formats)
  • WiFi-N support
  • Trackpad slightly larger

We find that the U120 has a better look.

Kingston Technology now in the field of SSD drives

Thursday, January 22nd, 2009

Like Corsair, Kingston Technology enters in the field of solid-state drives (SSD). Apparently, Kingston will not the only one because it will co-brand their products with Intel (which plans to release the 320GB SSD this fall). Kingston offers two ranges of SSD – the SSDNow E and SSDNow M series. The first will be for enterprise servers, while the second will be for professional laptops. The price is not known yet. Nice to see more and more manufacturers of memory module interest in SSD – hope that the competition will also reduce prices.

BenQ has shown its mobile projector GP1 at Texas Instruments booth at the sight of all the recent CES 2009, and this device can project movies, pictures, and office applications from a USB flash memory, and without a laptop to act as an intermediary. Apparently, the technology eliminates more and more bridges that make life so easy, which is a good thing. The BenQ GP1 projector will be available in March at a price of $599. Don’t expect images of extraordinary quality with a small engine.
