Launched in October of last year, the Iomega StorCenter ix2 network attached storage (NAS) has been updated. On the menu: the ability to download BitTorrent files, supports Mac (Apple File Protocol, or AFP) and remote access. BitTorrent is supported by most devices in this category, but it is a plus, because nobody would use a PC to download such files. Remote access requires a dynamic domain name, which costs $10 per year (the first year is free). Now it is possible to impose quotas for storage to ensure that all users have fair storage space.

Autonet is a 3G wireless router that has been specially designed for use in a car, and will be the first to be on the Cadillac CTS Sports Sedan. This allows everyone in the car (and the people around you during traffic jams), share an Internet connection on EV-DO Rev. A. Operators can identify and resolve configuration problems of Wi-Fi remotely, and Autonet service will start from $29 per month which is very affordable compared to standard 3G data packages.

For those who want to send data to a private network known for a long distance, but wireless, there are the XBee 900 and XBee XCS 900. Although very small, they can transfer data up to 24 km. The two wireless modules operate on the 900MHz ISM frequency, which allows data to be transferred within a radius of 24 km. It looks great until you learn that the transfer speed is only 9.6kbps …
